Old Family History
Born and raised in the village of Caldbeck, in the English Lake District, Jeff is the 6th generation of his family to be involved in the woodworking and furniture trade.

His initial involvement with woodworking was through his father and grandfather, who operated the family business from a converted 18th century flour mill (originally owned by the local church) and utilized the existing water wheel to power the machinery. He feels that this instilled in him an understanding and respect for time honored construction methods and functional design.

He operated his own custom furniture business in England between 1981 and 1989, which involved a wide variety of projects including traditional pine furniture, chair making, antique restoration and contemporary custom furniture. During that time he also spent two years attending Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology and graduated with advanced City & Guilds of London qualifications in traditional furniture construction and design, his work being exhibited and sold in galleries throughout England and Scotland.

Since the fall of 1989, he has lived and worked in British Columbia, Canada, creating fine wooden furniture for individual clients and also for sale through galleries in Canada and the USA.

In his work he strives to achieve a balance between function, design, and thoughtful use of quality materials, while maintaining his personal commitment to quality construction methods.

His work was featured on the cover and a 7-page inside article of Patrick Spielman’s “The Art of the Router” published by Sterling Chapelle in 1998.
